Manual recommendation building does not require an external AI service. The plugin does not send vendor usage telemetry or perform IP geolocation lookups. Optional AI and support requests are separate, user-initiated services described below.

Configured WordPress AI provider

When an authorized administrator explicitly uses AI generation or chat refinement, the plugin uses the WordPress AI client (wp_ai_client_prompt) to contact the provider configured for that site. Provider, model, and credentials are configured in WordPress. The tools are unavailable when that client is unavailable or not configured; manual building remains available.

Requests can include the administrator’s prompt or follow-up message, recommendation page context, builder rule schema, product taxonomy and attribute term slugs, current rule configuration, and recent AI chat history. Do not use these tools if you do not want that information sent to the configured provider. The configured provider’s account terms and data-handling policies apply.

The dashboard tutorial opens an external YouTube page only when you click its link. The plugin does not embed or automatically load the YouTube player. Following the link connects your browser to YouTube, which receives your IP address and normal browser request metadata and may use its own cookies according to its policies.

Local shopper data and cookies

Recommendation personalization and analytics use the store’s own database and REST API. These shopper events are not vendor telemetry and are not sent to WPXPO by the event tracker.

• Product views, add-to-cart actions, and removals are recorded with product identifiers, event counts, timestamps, and, for signed-in shoppers, their WordPress user ID. A daily WordPress cron task removes user-event records whose last update is older than 90 days; actual cleanup depends on cron execution.
• Guests receive the preco_guest_id identifier cookie for 30 days. Guest event data is held in local WordPress transients with a 30-day expiry and can be associated with the shopper’s account when they sign in.
• The preco_recently_viewed cookie stores recently viewed product IDs for 10 days.
• The preco_reco_click cookie stores recommendation click attribution for 3 days. Browser localStorage provides an attribution fallback; attribution entries have a 3-day validity window, but browser storage itself persists until cleared or updated.
• Sequential display uses browser localStorage to remember display state. Browser storage can be cleared through browser settings.
• Recommendation analytics and WooCommerce order attribution are separate from the 90-day user-event cleanup. Do not assume that cleanup removes order records or all analytics records.

Shopper tracking runs with the storefront scripts; the plugin does not provide a shopper consent banner or a dedicated privacy export/erasure interface. Site owners should disclose this processing in their store privacy policy and configure consent, retention, and privacy-request handling appropriate to their deployment.

Source code and building assets

The JavaScript and CSS files in the plugin’s assets folder are compiled and minified. The human-readable source (React and SCSS in the src folder, plus package.json, webpack.config.js, and gulpfile.mjs) is publicly available at bitbucket.org/wpstabon/wow-ai-product-recommendations.

To build the assets from source, run npm ci and then npm run build-release in the plugin folder. The build uses @wordpress/scripts (webpack) and Gulp for the SCSS.
