## Description

It’s EASY to create an index on your WordPress blog with EasyIndex. It works right
out of the box.

Most other index solutions require you to laboriously select and add each category
or tag you want to index , or even look up category and post IDs.
 With EasyIndex,
you just select the things you want to index from a list and the plugin can create
an index almost instantly.

With other index solutions, you are stuck with just one format – EasyIndex has 9
index styles (26 in the Plus version) that you can easily customize with different
fonts, colors, text styles and HTML tags.

You can easily add indexes to your menu, and if you want, EasyIndex will automatically
make submenu items as required.

And according to our Beta Testers, the link to a relevant help page that’s next
to every field on the setup screen really made using EasyIndex a breeze.

As well as generating indexes, [EasyIndex Plus](https://easyindexplugin.com) creates
customizable sidebar photo galleries – which you can also embed in posts using a
shortcode.

Want a gallery of your latest posts but only include posts from selected categories?
EasyIndex Plus can do that with just a few clicks.

Would you like to make a Pinterest style gallery from your posts? If you’ve got
EasyIndex Plus and a spare 30 seconds, you’re done!

## FAQ

  How does EasyIndex work?

EasyIndex reads all the posts in a selected taxonomy (i.e. categories, tags or other
any other grouping your theme or plugins may have defined)
 and filters them by
terms you select. It automatically scans each post for a suitable image to make
a thumbnail from and then displays all the thumbnails grouped by terms, or in an
ungrouped gallery

What does EasyIndex do that WordPress can’t?

EasyIndex makes it really easy to select exactly what it is you want to index (you
don’t have to know post or category IDs) and then lets you format your index just
the way you want it.

Can I use EasyIndex “out of the box”?

Absolutely!

You can create an index in just a few minutes with minimal setup. All you need to
do is click “Add new” index, select what it is you want to index, and hit “Publish”.
Job done!

There’s all sorts of goodies that you can adjust later, but you can create a serviceable
index right out of the box.

  How can I customize EasyIndex?

There are 4 levels of customization in EasyIndex.

First you can decide the style of index you want. EasyIndex has 9 styles you can
choose from – EasyIndex Plus has 26 styles, including Pinterest style galleries.

Second, although EasyIndex comes standard with default formatting that will work“
out of the box”, you can easily change things like HTML tags, fonts and colors used
for headings and text.

Third, you can add your own custom CSS if you want extra control.

Finally, [Live Formatting](https://easyindexplugin.com/live-formatting.php) in EasyIndex
Plus lets you change almost every CSS style on every index element and you can see
the effect of your changes as you make them

  Is it supported?

We have a [support site](http://support.easyindexplugin.com) where you can read
the documentation, view instructional videos and post support tickets.

For EasyIndex Plus users, we’ll do our best to answer every support ticket within
24 hours (it may take a little longer on weekends and holidays).

We’ll try to get to support tickets from users of the free plugin within a week.

Kudos to the creator of this plugin. Does a FANTASTIC job of easily creating an
index page of content. I hope the plugin creator keeps it updated. If they do, they’ll
continue to earn my VERY RARE 5-Star rating!

I’ve used this plugin on multiple sites for several years with recipes. It’s amazing
to me that recipe plugins don’t have anything nearly as good to index recipes.I
had a problem that completely messed up my navigation and after contacting them,
they worked diligently over several days to get it fixed and immediately posted
an update to the plugin. I think the bad reviews are super old. I’ve had nothing
but good experiences with customer service. Highly recommend.

I want to commend the excellent level of support I have been receiving from John
Shaw. From the first time I installed the free version to the point I am using the
Pro Version, John has helped me out with any question I may have. Some of my questions,
may not have been directly related to EasyIndex, but how I could tweak it to do
what I was looking for. John always gave me tips, provided some CSS coding, did
whatever to answer my concerns to full satisfaction. This is so good, especially
considering some of the “Ill get back to you”, “Not in our realm” type of answers
I have received from other support groups (Not Easyindex) I’ve worked for IBM for
over 35+ years in the area of IT and support, so I fully understand the importance
of how a support person conducts themselves. Just based on John’s ongoing support,
I would recommend the EasyIndex plugin to any Wordpress user.

### 󠀁[Looks nice, but it’s more complicated than it needs to be.](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/looks-nice-but-its-more-complicated-than-it-needs-to-be/)󠁿

 [Chelsey](https://profiles.wordpress.org/cnhartman2/) September 30, 2016

I started using EasyIndex when Visual Recipe Index stopped working. EasyIndex, once
set up, looks really nice. But I do have some problems with the way the indexing
works, particularly with slugs. Ideally, I would select the category I wanted indexed.
That category would then show up in my menu and, when clicked, would show all of
the posts within it. Instead, you click the category on the menu and you then have
to click the category thumbnail, and THEN it will show you the posts. You can create
a custom link in the menu to bypass this, but you still wind up with a slug that
looks like this: “website.com/index/photography/photography.” Which is entirely
unnecessary. Also, if you don’t want your menu items changing, you can’t even use
the index the way it’s made. You have to change everything to a custom link, which
is a pain. If you don’t, you risk your site menu items changing to whatever page
you’re on…which breaks the alignment of the menu and keeps readers from having full
access to your entire site. What I would love is for this plugin to just let you
create a shortcode that you could insert into a page or post, which is what VRI
used to do. That way, you can EASILY customize the way you want your site to be
indexed. As is, this plugin is more complicated than it really needs to be and doesn’t
give me as much control as I would like. Ultimately, I can get it to do what I need
it to do, just in a very roundabout way.
